Electrolysis

Electrolysis is PERMANENT hair removal. Electrolysis treatments permanently stop hair growth with the use of electrical current. The current used (galvanic, thermolysis or blend) is determined after the electrologist takes many factors into consideration, and the process begins by the insertion of a small probe which is about the size of a hair, into the hair follicle. After the insertion is made, a small amount of electrical current is sent into the follicle. The current causes a reaction in the follicle that destroys the hair germinating cells. Once all the germinating cells have been destroyed the follicle can no longer produce a hair. Electrolysis works on all types of hair and is gender, age, skin and hair color friendly.

  • There are many possible reasons and conditions that will cause an increase in hair growth. A few of causes may be hereditary, a hormone imbalance, stress/tension, pregnancy, peri-menopause/menopause, steroids, testosterone, birth control pills, or many other causes. There are also many reasons why a person may produce unwanted hair. Carol Hawkins, C.T. has been trained to recognize signs and symptoms that may need medical attention but she does not diagnose or treat any physical underlying medical conditions.

While there are many medical reasons for hair growth, you may just want to be able to eliminate hair that we consider "normal". For women it may be eyebrows, underarms, bathing suit lines, or legs & feet. For men it may be bushy eyebrows, hairy ears & nose, excessive body hair, or facial hair.

  • Laser is light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. The laser beam targets the melanin (hair color) in the hair shaft and destroys the germinating cells. Once those cells are destroyed the follicle can no longer produce a hair. In order to effectively treat the follicle the hair must be in the anagen (active growing) stage of growth. Normally it takes 6-8 laser treatments to catch all the hair in the anagen cycle and thus permanently reducing the amount of hair in any one area.

Laser is called permanent reduction since it has no affect on white, clear, gray or blond hair but with the combined use of Electrolysis to take care of the light and resistant hair, you can achieve total permanent hair removal. Electrolysis works on all types of hair and is gender, age, skin and hair color friendly. Laser is only effective on dark hair but you can achieve permanent hair removal by incorporating Electrolysis in your laser treatment. Schedule a complimentary consultation to find out which method of hair removal will best be suited for your unwanted hair issues.

  • The number of treatments needed to permanently remove unwanted hair will vary with each client. The amount of hair to be removed, the coarseness of the offensive hair, the cycle of growth the hair is in, the methods the client previously used to remove the hair and the client's skin tolerance will all factor into how long the process will take. Treatments are booked in 15 minute increments up to an hour long.

If you are new to Electrolysis, we recommend booking a consultation first so our electrologist can assess your needs and schedule your treatments appropriately.
